Q: Where were you born?
A: Guerrero, Mexico Q: Where were you raised?
A: I lived in Mexico City until I was 16 and then I came to the United States. Q: What inspired you to create La Preciosa?
A: Everyday I listened to the same music over and over. Most of the songs were about drugs or violence. Even the most beautiful songs that I grew up with came out in remix style by newer artists. It sounded really bad and ruined a perfectly great song. That’s when I decided that the “La Preciosa” format would be perfect…only the greatest hits from the original artists. Q: What personal connection do you have with the “La Preciosa” format?
A: I grew up listening to every song on the play list. This format brings back memories of my Mom making tortillas while listening to Pedro Infante, and my Grandfather taking my Grandmother to dance at a place where Vicente Fernandez was just starting out. I believe many people from Mexico experience the same when they listen. Q: How did you feel when La Preciosa showed up as #1 in the ratings after only 3 weeks? A: There was a combination of excitement and happiness in me…at the same time a great deal of responsibility to maintain it at #1. |
